J.W. Fox began his Karate journey in January of 1980 in Asheville, NC under the guidance of Chief Instructor Jerry Dula. His early training included Shotokan, Shorin Ryu Karate, Taekwondo, Kwan Mu Kan and others.
J.W. began his journey training with some of the best fighters in the country, and he would learn to love the sport of Kumite. His extensive training includes traditional Karate and Japanese Jiu Jitsu as well as Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, Judo, and Tai Chi. Training all of these styles and forms of fighting, J.W. knew he wanted to learn from many different styles and incorporate them to fit him and create his own fighting style. One of the most impactful and notable training experiences was under the late great Joe Lewis, World Heavyweight Full Contact Karate Champion and “Father of Modern Kickboxing”.
In 1983, J.W. started competing in point fighting where he finished as the runner up in the state his very first year. He has State championships, National Championships, The battle of Atlanta and many many others under his belt including full contact bouts and then moving into the MMA and K1 where he was very successful.

John started training in Kong Shin Bup Hapkido headed by GM Rudy Timmerman. He later served as an Infantryman in the US Army, and began training Yang Style Tai Chi, Cheng Man Ching Short Form Tai Chi, Tai Kwon Dom Bujinkan, Hoshin Roshi Ryu, Goju Ryu, Hakko Ryu, Silat, Kobudo and Gracie Jujitsu.
John always had a passion for training with his 3 main mentors: Butch Velez, Dr. Victor Ferros and Sensei Gus Daniels. John served as Fuku-Kaicho of AGK under Kaicho Velez, is a Sr. Instructor in JKD, 3rd dan in Filipino Martial Arts, 1st Dan in Dose Pares Multi-System under Dr. Ferreros. He’s also a Black Belt Judo Instructor under Sensei Daniels accredited by USA Judo.
